Please join us for a pre-Holy Week concert presentation of The Passion: According to Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, composed by Tony Eiras. This work, a profound expression of the drama and grace of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, set at the core of Christian belief, will be performed by the Chapel Choir of the Catholic Community at Stanford and orchestra in the stunning setting of Memorial Church.

Eiras’ soul-searing rhythms and melodies wind themselves through the orchestral score, from Pilate’s rock-opera interrogation scenes to the achingly beautiful “Women of Jerusalem”. All of the drama reaches a climax in Jesus’ timeless question, “Why have you abandoned me?” leaving the audience to ponder once again the mystery of the Passion.

This event is open to the public and admission is free.

This concert continues a series of presentations by the Catholic Community over the years that have celebrated the fine and performing arts that enrich our liturgical life, and have included concerts, poetry readings, photography and dance montages and original operettas.
