Welcome To Our Second Year Of Newman Nights!

Date:
Sunday, October 6, 2013
Quarter:
Fall 2013

We would like to invite all interested students, staff, faculty and non-students in the community to participate in presentations and theological inquiry that reflect the breadth and depth of the Catholic intellectual tradition. Newman Nights is a series designed to help form the faith of the Catholic Community at Stanford University. Ninety minutes long, it consists of a forty-minute lecture followed by breakout groups for further theological and personal reflection. Each lecture, given by a professor of theology or another expert in spirituality or theology, seeks to provide a robust and nuanced examination of various theological and spiritual issues, arranged around the following themes: God, Scripture, Church, Sacraments, and Living one’s faith.   The topics have been designed to be broad and inclusive enough to be of interest to the larger community. Each large group presentation will be immediately followed by optional small group discussions that will allow for further inquiry, participation and community building.  There will be affinity groups for RCIA, for Adult Confirmation, for Undergraduates, for Graduate Students, and for the community at large.  Each small group will be led by the CC@S campus ministers or by trained facilitators.

This program fulfills the needs of RCIA and Adult Confirmation. Please contact Father Nathan Castle, O.P. (ncastle@stanford.edu ) for information on RCIA, and contact Father Xavier Lavagetto, O.P. (xavierop@stanford.edu) for information on adult Confirmation.   You may also check our website under Sacraments for a description of these two programs.  Our website also contains maps to the Old Union and information on parking. Simply go to the homepage and click on “About”.

We will meet on Tuesday nights in the Sanctuary of Old Union, from 7:30pm until 9:00pm beginning October 8, 2013. Each session will be videotaped and audio taped and will be available on our website, together with suggestions for further reading and discussion. All are welcome to attend these lectures free of charge.  The series has been designed so that people may participate in the entire series or just attend the lectures they wish to hear.   Come for one! Come for a quarter! Come for any you would like!
