| The choir of the Catholic Community at Stanford in action! | |
Altar Server / Acolyte. Altar servers assist the community at Sunday worship. They arrive a half hour before Mass begins and help set up. During Mass, the altar servers join in the entrance procession, are seated with the presider, and assist him with various tasks such as holding the Sacramentary and preparing the altar. At the end of the liturgy, altar servers clean and store the Communion vessels and assist with other "finishing-up" details.
Greeter. Greeters serve an important role as ministers of hospitality. They welcome people to the Sunday liturgy and distribute worship aids and they are available to answer questions for visitors. At the close of the liturgy, greeters go to the entrances of the church to take up the collection. They remain a few minutes after Mass to make sure the church is cleared of any left-over bulletins and other material. This ministry is crucial to our Gospel mandate to welcome each other.
Lector. Lectors proclaim the Good News of the Scriptures in the midst the community. Lectionary readings, from both the Old and New Testament, are assigned in advance. In addition to the text, lectors also receive supplementary materials of theological and historical background to help them better understand the text.
Eucharistic Ministers. Eucharistic Ministers distribute Holy Communion during Mass on Sunday and special feast days. They share both bread and cup with the worshipping community.
Music Ministry. Musicians serve at Mass by assisting the sung prayer of the congregation. Many different styles of music allow for a varied expression of worship. The choir is made up of both students and non-students. We have a choir at each of the three Sunday Masses during the school year. Rehearsals are held one night a week (typically Wednesday). Each choir also has a warm-up/rehearsal right before Mass. Both vocalists and instrumentalists are encouraged to participate.
Jonathan Greenfield Memorial Liturgical Arts Series. The Jonathan Greenfield Memorial Liturgical Arts Series is an annual presentation of liturgical artistry honoring the memory of Jonathan "Skip" Greenfield. The Series will have one major presentation in the winter quarter.
