There are many ways in which members of the community can participate in the worship life of the Church. For more information on any of the following opportunities, please contact Chaplain Teresa Pleins.
Music Ministry
Musicians serve at Mass by assisting the sung prayer of the congregation. Many different styles of music allow for a varied expression of worship. The choir is made up of both students and non-students. Rehearsals are held one night a week and before Sunday Mass. Both vocalists and instrumentalists are encouraged to participate.
Eucharistic Ministry
Eucharistic Ministers distribute Holy Communion during weekend liturgies and special feast days. They share both bread and cup with the worshipping community.
Scripture Ministry
Lectors proclaim the Good News of the Scriptures in the midst the community--they read the readings at Mass--in a way that reflects the richness of the living Word. Lectors are assigned readings and provided with texts in advance, along with notes on theological and historical background. Lectors prepare both individually and in cooperation with other lectors.
Hospitality Ministry
Greeters serve an important role as ministers of hospitality. They greet people before Sunday liturgy and are available to answer questions for visitors. At the close of the liturgy, greeters go to the entrances of the church to take up the collection. They remain a few minutes after Mass to make sure the church is cleared of any left-over bulletins and other material.
Altar Ministry
Altar servers assist the community at Sunday worship. They arrive a half hour before Mass begins and help set up. During Mass, the altar servers join in the entrance procession, are seated with the presider, and assist him with various tasks such as holding the Sacramentary and preparing the altar. At the end of the liturgy, altar servers clean and store the Communion vessels and assist with other "finishing-up" details.
Liturgical Arts Series
The Catholic Community at Stanford sponsors a series of annual presentations that celebrate the fine and performing arts that enrich our liturgical life. The Liturgical Arts Series originally began in honor of the memory of Jonathan "Skip" Greenfield. Events in the Series have included concerts, poetry readings, photography and dance montages and original operettas. This year, the presentation will be during Winter Quarter.
