The Educational Ministry seeks to assist members of the Catholic Community with the need for the development of a strong and informed faith.

What Catholics Believe

This is offered annually as a general introduction or overview of the Catholic faith. It is ordinarily offered during either the autumn or winter terms.

Faith Formation for Children

All members of our Stanford Catholic comunity are welcome to participate in our Family Intergenerational Religious Education program (F.I.R.E.). Participants gather in small intergenerational communities of 5 or 6 households where people of all ages learn about our faith together. The F.I.R.E. program is our faith formation experience for the children in our community. For more information and registration, contact Fr. Carl Schlicte.
Preparation for First Communion (including First Reconciliation) will begin in the fall of 2010.

The Bishop Pierre DuMaine Lectures

This quarterly lecture series, funded by the late Professor Kurt Reinhardt, honors the first Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of San Jose, The Most Reverend Pierre Dumaine, Ph.D. Bishop DuMaine established the Catholic ministry at Stanford as a freestanding personal parish of the San Jose Diocese.
The lecture series will be announced at a later date

Preparation for Confirmation

Preparation for receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation for Stanford students, faculty, staff and registered Permanent Community members will begin in January 2010. The process entails roughly 10 90-minutes classes, usually in the evening and a day of reflection. Confirmation will be celebrated in April or May, 2010 at Stanford. Preparation for high school age children (normally sophomores) of Permanent Community families, which is a two-year commitment, will next begin in the fall of 2010.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

RCIA is the program used in the Roman Catholic Church to assist both those inquiring into the Catholic faith, and those wanting to join it. This journey is unique for each individual, but the process follows guidelines for RCIA suggested by the Church. RCIA is based loosely on the ancient practices of how the early Church brought members to itself through prayer, ritual, and personal sharing as the context for learning and faith. RCIA meets once a week on Monday nights. It will start on Monday, October 5, 2009, and entrance into the Church will be on April 3, 2010 at the Easter Vigil.
