serving the community
The Catholic Community at Stanford is dedicated to serving the needs of our community. We participate in a number of projects, so whether you are interested in group activities or in making an ongoing personal commitment, there is something for everyone. Check the Sunday bulletin for details on upcoming opportunities.

Among our activities we include:
Peninsula Interfaith Action (PIA)
The Catholic Community at Stanford is affiliated with Peninsula Interfaith Action (PIA), a federation of 31 congregations organized to improve the quality of life for families throughout the San Francisco Mid-Peninsula. PIA churches address issues such as affordable housing, education, and health care; our community is currently researching the issue of universal health care access in Santa Clara County, which has 185,000 uninsured adults. Last year we led PIA in collecting signatures to place an initiative for providing health insurance for children on the November, 2006 ballot (Prop. 86). Contact Mark Ruzon (650/961-6715, ruzon@cs.stanford.edu) or visit the PIA website at http://www.piapico.org

Pax Christi
This is a gathering of Catholics interested in working for world and local peace. It involves meeting, discussion, prayer and action. If you are interested, contact Ed Ehmke (650/326-7988, ehmke@stanford.edu).

Spring Break Service Trip to Mexicali
During spring break, we offer students an opportunity for service to the poor in Mexicali through the Dominican Mission there. Projects often involve building, cleaning, community development and other services to the members of a Catholic parish on the United States-Mexico border. For more information, please contact Brian Payer (650/725-0080, bpayer@stanford.edu) or Michelle Erdrich (650/725-0080, merdrich@stanford.edu).
