Preparation for Confirmation
Stanford Students and Permanent Community
Catholic Stanford students and permanent community members wishing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation are invited to participate in the winter quarter Confirmation program held Wednesday nights. The preparation includes weekly sessions January thru April, participation in the Busy Person's Retreat, and an initial and concluding interview. Class will begin January 17, 2007 and conclude with Confirmation on April 22, 2007. For more information and registration, contact Catherine Wolff (650/725-0080, cwolff@stanford.edu).

Those interested in a more in-depth year-long preparation may participate in the RCIA program which meets weekly during the fall and winter quarters. See RCIA below for more information, and contact Fr. David Geib (650/725-0080, dwgeib@stanford.edu).

High-School Students
We have a two year high school Confirmation program primarily directed toward sophomore and junior students who are members of our Catholic Community at Stanford. The next preparation will begin in 2007. For more information and registration, contact Catherine Wolff (650/725-0080, cwolff@stanford.edu).

Baptisms
(For adult baptisms, please see the RCIA section below.)
Infant baptisms are celebrated once each quarter during and after the 4:30 Mass for eligible members of the Catholic Community at Stanford. The preparation process for first time parents includes an interview with Fr. David and a general session with all the new parents and new godparents held on the Saturday morning, a week before the baptisms. Parents who have already gone through baptism preparation for older children need to check in with Fr. David as soon as they can, and no later than two weeks before the baptisms, with the name of the child to be baptized, names of godparents, and other necessary information. The Baptism dates for 2006-2007 academic year are November 12, 2006; February 11, 2007; and May 20, 2007. For more information contact Fr. David Geib, O.P., (dwgeib@stanford.edu, 650/725-0060).

First Eucharist and First Reconciliation
The Sacramental experience of First Eucharist and First Reconciliation is normally shared with children in the second grade. Preparation for First Eucharist and First Reconciliation occurs in the context of the Family Faith Formation Program, F.I.R.E., and through special at-home sessions. Appropriate preparation for older students will be arranged in consultation with Catherine Wolff. Dates for the Sacraments will be February 10, 2007 for First Reconciliation, and May 6, 2007 for First Eucharist. For more information and registration, contact Catherine Wolff (650/725-0080, cwolff@stanford.edu).

Rite of Christian Inititation of Adults (RCIA)
RCIA is the program used in the Roman Catholic Church to assist both those inquiring into the Catholic faith, and those wanting to join it. This journey is unique for each individual. RCIA is based loosely on the ancient practices of how the early Church brought members to itself through prayer, ritual, and personal sharing as the context for learning and faith. RCIA meets once a week on Wednesday nights. It will start on Wednesday, September 27, 2006 with the target date of the Easter Vigil, April 7, 2007 for those entering the Church this year. For more information contact Fr. David Geib (dwgeib@stanford.edu, 650/725-0060)

Marriage
Stanford University determines eligibility for using Memorial Church for weddings (call 650/723-1762). After meeting with the university wedding coordinator, it is necessary to meet with Nancy Greenfield, Director of Catholic Wedding Preparation, immediately to make the necessary arrangements. The Diocese of San Jose requires at least six months of preparation prior to the rite. For further information contact: Nancy Greenfield (nanccas@aol.com, 650/233-9795).

Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession)
Members of the community have two scheduled opportunities for this powerful sacrament each week. Confessions are heard in our offices in Building 60 on Monday from 7:30 to 8:30 PM and Tuesday 1:00 to 3:00 PM In addition, there are communal reconciliation services during Advent and Lent. The priests are always willing to celebrate the sacrament upon request at other times.

Anointing of the Sick
The Catholic Community celebrates the Sacrament of the Sick at the Sunday Masses during the academic year. This gives the entire community the opportunity to receive the Sacrament themselves or to support those who will receive it. The Sacrament of the Sick is also available at other times by appointment. Contact Fr. Patrick (650/725-0080, labelle@stanford.edu) or Fr. David Geib (650/725-0080, dwgeib@stanford.edu) to set up an appointment.
